Jen Cullerton Johnson is a writer, educator, and urban environmentalist.

She is the author of several works, including a non-fiction children’s book Seeds of Change that is an engaging and inspiring invitation into the life and work of Wangari Maathai, Noble Peace Prize Winner and founder of the Greenbelt Movement. 

​Jen's writing has won several awards, including an Illinois Artist Fellowship Award and the Coretta Scott King Awards among others.
 
She is the co-founder of GreenLiteracy.org a leader of social change, aligning educational institutions with lifelong ecological stewardship.  
Green Literacy's programs transform young people's relationship with the environment by empowering them to become environmental leaders through reading and writing and acting in sustainable ways.

Educated at University of New Orleans (MFA), Loyola University of Chicago (MEd) and Indiana University (BA), Jen is one of the creators of the Karma Garden, a  collaborative community garden that serves temporarily detained incarcerated youth in Cook County.

She is an adjunct professor at Wright College, City Colleges of Chicago and a literature teacher at Chicago Public Schools.
